Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
